Frequently Asked Questions (PTA Tax)
How to check if my phone is PTA approved?
Dial *#06# on your phone to get your 15-digit IMEI number. Then send this IMEI number via SMS to 8484. You will receive an instant official reply from PTA confirming whether your device is Compliant (Approved), Non-Compliant, or Blocked.
How long can I use a Non-PTA mobile in Pakistan?
Any newly imported smartphone without PTA approval works on Pakistani mobile networks (Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone) for exactly 60 days from the day a local SIM is inserted. After 60 days, cellular signals are suspended until the required customs duty is paid. Wi-Fi and all apps continue to work indefinitely.
Can I pay PTA tax in monthly installments?
Yes! Several Pakistani banks (such as Bank Alfalah, Faysal Bank, Silkbank, and Standard Chartered) allow you to pay the 1Bill PSID tax using your credit card and convert it into 3, 6, or 12 month installment plans at zero or low markup.
What happens if I don't pay PTA tax?
Your phone will be barred from registering on Pakistani cellular towers. You will not be able to make cellular phone calls, send standard SMS, or use 4G/5G mobile data. However, your device can still connect to Wi-Fi, run social media apps (WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube), camera, and games.
